Maritime Signalling and Navigation Systems

The Hydrographic Institute elaborates Maritime Signaling projects that may include the hydrographic survey of the areas to be signaled, the lateral scanning sonar survey to identify underwater obstacles, the design of navigation channels and maneuvering areas, the location of Maritime marks, the definition of the characteristics of the marks, the technical specification of equipment, technical support in the acquisition of equipment and the monitoring of its installation.

The execution of maritime constructions or the installation of structures at sea shall be preceded by the submission of a Maritime Signaling Project to the competent authorities, in time for it to be approved, installed and disclosed before the commencement of the work.

The Hydrographic Institute elaborates projects on navigation systems that may include studies of the application of navigation systems.
As an Associate Member of the International Maritime Signaling Association (AISM / IALA), the Hydrographic Institute participates in the Radio navigation Committee, which develops Specifications, Recommendations, Manuals and Guides that aim to standardize and improve the various Navigation Systems in the world.
