Hydrographic Surveys

For the hydrographic Surveys at the Hydrographic Institute we use single beam, multibeam and interferometric acoustic systems to measure the depths, and corrected GNSS satellite position sys-tems form high precision positioning.

Measuring depths with single beam acoustic systems guarantees measurements at the vertical of the survey platform, and is usually used for shallower areas.
The use of interferometric systems is usually related to shallower areas, for a better coverage of the seafloor area.
When using multibeam systems the measurements are more precise, and usually related to deeper than 5m areas.

Both interferometric and multibeam systems survey along a transversal swath area, with swath width depending on the depth. This allows to guarantee the full seafloor coverage, assuring the de-tection of minimum depths relevant to navigation safety, as well as most structures that may be a danger to navigation.
