Completed the first data collection and sampling mission for the AQUIMAR project

The first data collection and sampling mission for the AQUIMAR - Marine Knowledge Supporting Aquaculture project, which took place from 1 to 27 October, was completed on board the NRP "Auriga" and NRP "Almirante Gago Coutinho" vessels.

CTD profiles, water and sediment samples, ADCP profiles and runner mooring of correntometers were performed in four coastal areas, from the Algarve, Sines, Peniche, Leixões and Aveiro. In total, 273 stations were sampled between the bathymetry of 30 and 200 m depth, and about 250 sediment samples and 900 water samples were collected, which will be analyzed in terms of biological, physicochemical and microplastic parameters.

In 2019, within the scope of this project, two other missions are already planned.
