Launching of drift buoys by NRP Sagres

Another buoy derived from the GDP - Global Drifter Program was launched by the Navio-Escola Sagres. During its navigation, the NRP Sagres in cooperation with the Hydrographic Institute, has already launched 2 drifting buoys that are contributing to NOAA's international program. The first buoy was launched on June 26, 2023 SW of the Madeira Archipelago and the second buoy was launched on June 28, 2023 SW of the Canary Islands.It is planned to launch 8 more buoys along the NRP Sagres training trip.The GDP program's main objective is to improve global numerical forecasts and monitor the oceans and climate through the launch of drift buoys. The buoys transmit data, in real time, on the surface temperature of the water, atmospheric pressure and position, making it possible to study ocean currents.Find out more about the program and follow the data in real time through the link: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/gdp/.
