Hydrographic Institute receives visit from Spelman College
The Hydrographic Institute received yesterday, a group of students from Spelman College, a higher education institution in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The group mostly made up of young women and accompanied by the company «Culinary Backstreets», is in Portugal for a study tour focusing on the theme of gastronomy.
The students showed an unusual interest in the spaces of the former convent of Trinas do Mocambo, in particular for its extraordinary kitchen, the tile collections, for understanding the social condition of the nuns in the context of the old maritime and African district of Western Lisbon.
The guided tour also allowed the presentation of some emblematic pieces of the Institute's technical-scientific collections, such as the Kelvin tide forecaster.
