Hydrographic Institute participates in the exercise ATLANTIC POLEX.PT
The Hydrographic Institute (IH) participated, on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May, in Viana do Castelo, in the 2022 edition of the exercise ATLANTIC POLEX.PT, organized by the Directorate of Pollution Control at Sea of the General Direction of the Maritime Authority.
This initiative, held annually, aims to comply with the provisions of the Clean Sea Plan, namely to ensure the readiness standards of the resources of the National Maritime Authority and other bodies, with regard to operations of prevention and response to a pollution incident in the marine environment.
The exercise included the participation of two technicians from the IH, one from the Oceanography area, Sub-Lieutenant Ana Mateus, and the other from the Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment area, Senior Technician with Scholarship (TSB) Pedro Silva, who developed activities consisting in the launch of drifting floats, the use of the drift model oceandrift and the monitoring of operations to collect hydrocarbon samples.
In the scope of this event, a seminar on "Preservation of the Marine Environment" was also carried out, having TSB Pedro Silva collaborated as a speaker with the communication "Chemical Analysis: A Fulcral Proof Element in the Identification of the Origin of Pollution by Hydrocarbons".
