Hydrographic Institute Participates in International Meeting
The Portuguese Navy's Hydrographic Institute participated in the final meeting of JPIOceans "Ecological Aspects of Microplastics" held at the Marine Institute in Galway on September 14 and 15.
During the meeting, various presentations were made on projects that took place from 2019 to 2023, addressing topics related to the identification, characterization, and quantification of major sources of microplastics, new sampling and analytical methodologies, monitoring and mapping of microplastics, and concepts related to reducing plastic entry into the marine environment.
The Hydrographic Institute, through its Division of Chemistry and Marine Environment Pollution, is a partner in the i-plastic project - Dispersion and impacts of micro- and nano-plastics in the tropical and temperate oceans: from the regional land-ocean interface to the open ocean. They participated in the meeting with a presentation titled 'Microplastics in Motion: Flux Dynamics from the Mondego River to the Eastern Atlantic,' delivered by Ana Beatriz Rebocho.
