The Hydrographic Institute in co-leadership of IBIROOS

Recently, Dr. Luísa Lamas was unanimously elected as co-chair of IBIROOS during the annual meeting of this group held at the Hydrographic Institute in Lisbon.

The Iberia-Biscay-Ireland Operational Oceanographic System (IBIROOS) is the regional node of EuroGOOS (European Global Ocean Observing System) aiming to foster collaboration among five countries (Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom) for the development and implementation of ocean observation systems for the Iberia-Biscay-Ireland (IBI) region, providing real-time operational products, services, and data.

Dr. Luísa Lamas holds a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and currently serves as the head of the Data Management and Processing Area in the Oceanography Division of the Hydrographic Institute. Throughout her career at the Hydrographic Institute, she has been involved in the development of value-added products and services related to the marine environment, combining information obtained from different platforms (in-situ observation, remote sensing, and modeling).

Dr. Luísa Lamas now joins Dr. João Vitorino as the GOOS focal point and Commander Santos Fernandes as a member of the EuroGOOS Executive Board in representing Portugal and the Hydrographic Institute at high-level decision-making and strategic positions within the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS).
