Hydrographic Institute makes its presence felt at the nation's premier geological congress
The Hydrographic Institute was present at the 11th National Geological Congress, the primary gathering of Portuguese geologists, held from July 16 to 20, 2023, at the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Coimbra.
With the work titled "Sedimentary Cover on the Algarve Windward Continental Shelf: Seismo-Stratigraphic Analysis and Recent Evolution," authors André Vinhas and Aurora Rodrigues from the Marine Geology Division highlighted the significance of studying the seabed for understanding the genesis of recent sedimentary cover and the evolution of the coastal environment since the last glacial maximum.
This is a contribution from the SEDMAR program, focused on mapping marine sediments along the Portuguese shore.
