Hydrographic Institute collaborates in international ocean observation project

The Portuguese Navy's Hydrographic Institute (IH) recently received a visit from the representative of the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH), Meike Martins.

During this visit, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IH and BSH was formalized within the scope of the Argo program (https://www.bsh.de/EN/TOPICS/Monitoring_systems/Argo_floats/argo_floats_node).

The main objective of this MoU is to allow the Hydrographic Institute to coordinate the launch of Argo floats from Portuguese Navy ships, providing important support to the program's mission: maintaining a network of 4000 floats observing the global ocean.

In addition to formalizing the MoU, Meike Martins' visit included a training session, which allowed IH employees to acquire relevant technical skills to autonomously support the launch of the Argo floats.
