Start of the CBONDEX mission

A joint team from the IH and PLOCAN launched a glider (an autonomous glider vehicle without its own propulsion) southwest of Sesimbra yesterday, April 5, aboard the NRP Andrómeda, as part of the international Jerico-S3 project.

Over the next month, this PLOCAN glider will carry out the CBONDEX mission, leveraging the Transnational Access (TA) mechanism of the JERICO-S3 project, with plans to cover approximately 350 nautical miles and collect oceanographic information in the first 1000 meters of the ocean water column.

The collected data will advance current understanding of the nature and impacts of key interaction processes between the coastal ocean and the open ocean, occurring off the western coast of Portugal.
