IH receives the promoters of the National Defense Day
On December 21, 2017, the Hydrographic Institute (IH) received about 30 military personnel from the three branches of the Armed Forces, accompanied by Commander Marcelo Correia, Chief of Staff of the Navy Recruitment and Selection Office.
After the welcome by Commander Mesquita Onofre, Technical Director of the IH, the group of disseminators watched the institutional film and a lecture on the theme of the Continental Shelf Extension . Afterwards, they passed through the divisions of the Technical Direction, where they were able to exchange information about the existing capacities in the areas of Navigation, Oceanography, Hydrography, Geographic Information Systems, Chemistry and Marine Geology, which contribute to the knowledge of the sea.
The visit ended with a visit to the School of Hydrography and Oceanography, the only one in Portugal and the few in the world with internationally recognized hydrography courses that train qualified professionals in the most advanced and increasingly effective methods of studying the sea.
