IH and FCUL signed cooperation protocol
The Hydrographic Institute (HI) and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FSUL), signed today a cooperation protocol, in the academic and scientific field, in the marine sciences area.
This protocol establishes the terms of cooperation between FSUL and HI, within the specific competencies of the two institutions, in order to align their research strategies and agendas, optimize the use of human resources, equipment and infrastructures, contribute to the training of qualified staff, taking advantage of the opportunities arising from the potential of the European research area and enhancing the national and international cooperation networks in which they are integrated.
This protocol was signed by the General Director, Rear Admiral António Manuel Coelho Cândido, and by the FSUL Director, Prof. José Artur Martinho Simões.
The Hydrographic Institute, as an organ of the Navy and State Laboratory, has as its fundamental mission to ensure research and technological development activities related to marine sciences and techniques, especially in the areas of hydrography, hydrographic cartography, navigation safety, oceanography and defense of the marine environment.
The Hydrographic Institute has human, technological and knowledge resources of fundamental relevance for the pursuit of training and research activities in the field of marine sciences and participates in several research projects with other institutes and universities, national and foreign.
The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon carries out research and teaching in the areas such as: marine sciences, earth and environment, mathematical and information, information and communication technologies, physics and chemistry. Provides scientific capacity and significant technological resources in instrumental areas under the responsibility of the state laboratories, assuming a culture of cooperation and networking with the institutions of the national scientific and technological system, optimizing resources and efficiency.
