EHIR activated to provide support in Borba
The Rapid Intervention Hydrographic Team (EHIR) was again activated, following the request made by the National Civil Protection Authority, to provide support in the search for the collapse of the quarry in Borba.
EHIR left the Hydrographic Base Vice-Admiral Sarmento Gouveia for the site on November 22, equipped with a boat and a water-jet with a simple beam system and lateral sonar equipment and remotely operated submarine vehicle (ROV).
In the place, the conditions to operate with the means, namely with lateral sonar, were evaluated.
On day 23 they pursued the lateral sonar tests, in order to obtain positive results for the detailed evaluation of the quarry floor.
