World Nature Conservation Day

On July 28th, we celebrate World Nature Conservation Day. This date aims to raise awareness of environmental issues, especially those concerning nature conservation.

Regarding the sea, it is one of the most impactful resources in the world. It is important to remember that 70% of our planet is covered by seas and oceans, and they contain 97% of all the water on the planet. The sea is also home to various species essential for the well-being of nature and human life.

As an organ of the Portuguese Navy, the Hydrographic Institute (IH) has the mission of ensuring activities related to marine sciences and techniques, as well as contributing to the defense of the marine environment.

Promoting practices that conserve our magnificent sea is a mission for all of us.
