Commander Pires Correia takes over as Director of the Nato Center of Excellence in Portugal

Captain César Pires Correia took office on April 22 as Director of the "NATO Maritime GEOMETOC Center of Excellence" (NATO GEOMETOC COE), replacing Captain Fernando Freitas Artilheiro.The ceremony held at the Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy, where this NATO center is based, was presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Armada, Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, on behalf of the Admiral Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.Accredited by NATO and activated as an International Military Body on August 26, 2021, the MGEOMETOC COE represents a reinforcement of Portugal's contribution and reveals the existing capacity in the field of Geospatial, Meteorological and Oceanographic Information to support the maritime operations of the Atlantic Alliance.In addition to its technical-military importance, the MGEOMETOC COE has an added value for Portugal, not only for its allied presence in the national territory, but also for the prestige and international recognition, associated with its leadership in the maritime GEOMETOC domain.
