Collaboration between IH and ARDITI/OOM
Since July 8th, a collaboration has been taking place in Funchal between the Hydrographic Institute (IH) and the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation/Madeira Ocean Observatory (ARDITI/OOM) for the sharing of experiences in the field of hydrographic and oceanographic data acquisition.
Regarding Hydrography, the activities carried out included hydrographic surveys in the Port of Funchal, Ponta da Cruz, and Tabua, with great emphasis on the use of the unmanned vehicle Observatório II (DriX model) from ARDITI/OOM and its high-resolution multibeam sonar, optimized to determine bathymetry up to 2500m deep.
In terms of Marine Environment Monitoring, IH supported the implementation of this capability using various oceanographic equipment to collect physical and biogeochemical data from the water column. Some suggestions for improving the collection of current data in the water column were shared, as well as for the maintenance of oceanographic equipment, campaign preparation, best data collection practices, safety in operating equipment at sea, and approaches to unexpected events during operations.
The activities will continue until August 2nd, now focusing on Geology and Chemistry.
This cooperation has strengthened the relations between IH and ARDITI/OOM, who share the common goal of deepening the knowledge of the Portuguese Sea!
