Galileo Campaign 2018 - 2nd communiqué

After crossing the Drake Channel and acquiring hydrographic data of opportunity during navigation, the ship reached the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands. Crossing the Nelson Strait between the Nelson and Robert Islands, BIO Hespérides made the southern approach to the Livingston island with the objective of providing logistical support to the Spanish base "Juan Carlos".

The ship remained anchored during the night and only on the morning of February 22 followed the island Deception. In this place two hydrographers of the team of the Hydrographic Institute of Spain were landed along with a survey vessel. These elements will remain in the Spanish base "Gabriel de Castilla" for 4 days to carry out a simple beam survey and topography of the coastline.

On the 23rd the vessel returned to Livingston Island and the crew landed and made Galileo observations.
