Oceanic multiparameter buoy from Sines collected for maintenance
The Navy hydrographic vessel NRP D. Carlos I carried out another work of an oceanographic nature, off the coast of Sines, picking up the oceanic multiparameter buoy anchored around 52 km west of that city for maintenance.
In order to accomplish this task, a team made up of six members of the oceanography division of the Hydrographic Institute embarked on the ship. In addition to boarding the aforementioned elements, the General Director of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral Ramalho Marreiros, embarked to observe the operation of collecting this buoy.
The collection operations of these large buoys are related to the need to carry out maintenance work. After completion of said work, the Navy ship will anchor the buoy in the same position.
It should be noted the current importance of these buoys in obtaining various data such as the measurement of winds, currents on the water surface, current in the water column (depth), atmospheric pressure and salinity, characteristics of the region.
