1st Conference on Hydrography of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries - Opening Session

The solemn opening session of the 1st Conference on Hydrography of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) took place on July 4th.

From the speeches of the speakers, the cross-cutting message of all stood out, highlighting the central need for cooperation and capacity building in Hydrography and related scientific areas within the CPLP community, to increase the safety of navigation and for the development of national hydrographic services, but also considering the geopolitical and strategic international scenario, where reforms and commitments are expected from countries, with a view to defining goals related to the sustainability of the oceans and the role they may come to play in the climate agenda. It is in this scenario that Hydrography (and related areas) can and must be used as an essential tool in the knowledge of the ocean, knowing in advance that the constant changes in the environment, whether natural or man-made, make the work of hydrography endless, requiring permanent monitoring and updating.
