Determination of dissolved oxygen concentration on the high seas

This video was recorded during the campaign for the fourth phase of the AQUIMAR project, which took place on board the NRP Almirante Gago Coutinho, from February 24 to March 22, 2020. This project aims to identify the best places to practice aquaculture along the coast of mainland Portugal.

In the water samples collected under the project, the concentration of dissolved oxygen was determined. One of the methods of determining this chemical parameter is the Winkler method. This method uses the titration technique and is based on an oxidation reaction.

The laboratory set up on board the NRP Almirante Gago Coutinho, used this method to determine the concentration of dissolved oxygen.
