Maritime Safety Information Training by the Hydrographic Institute

Throughout December, the Hydrographic Institute's Navigation Division conducted the first Maritime Safety Information (MSI) training via video conference for the National Maritime Agency of Angola.

As the entity responsible for disseminating Maritime Safety Information and coordinating the NAVTEX service nationally, the Hydrographic Institute (IH) is also the technical navigation authority for the Navy, ensuring national coordination and dissemination of navigation warnings and notices to mariners. In this area, IH is tasked with promoting actions related to Navigation Safety.

The training involved a total of 45 participants from various Angolan entities, including the Directorate of Maritime Safety and Seafarers, Directorate of Hydrography, Oceanography, and Scientific Research, and the Harbormasters of the ports of Cabinda, Soyo, Luanda, Amboim, Lobito, and Namibe. Over the 12 sessions of the training, topics related to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), MSI Dissemination Services, Navigation Warnings, Notices to Mariners, Aids to Navigation and Maritime Information, and Nautical Cartography were covered.

Maritime Safety Information is crucial for the entire maritime community, and its knowledge and global dissemination are strongly recommended by the International Maritime Organization.
