«Mestre Silva» fishing vessel located by NRP Gago Coutinho with a team from the Hydrographic Institute on board
In an attempt to seek relevant information about this shipwreck, the Navy, through the Hydrographic Institute, boarded the NRP Almirante Gago Coutinho, a rapid intervention hydrographic team, equipped with a side scan sonar and a remotely operated submarine vehicle Vehicle - ROV).
The positions of the signal emitted by the emergency positioning float (EPIRB) were searched, and the vessel was detected through the lateral sonar and confirmed the identification, using the ROV vehicle.
The presence of gillnets around the vessel is verified, which made it difficult to investigate, especially in the operation of the ROV.
It is recalled that the boat was shipwrecked on October 15 when it was about 10 miles (about 19 km) off Esmoriz.
After the searches, the families in mourning for the Navy expressed deep condolences.
