Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute visits Cape Verde
The Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear-Admiral Carlos Ventura Soares, went to Cape Verde, more precisely to the city of Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. The visit, that took place from the 15th to the 17th November, occurred simultaneously with the presence of the NRP "D.Carlos I" in that harbour, on a mission within the scope of the "Open Sea 2021" initiative, where it carried out extensive oceanographic work in Cape Verdean waters.
Rear-Admiral Ventura Soares had the opportunity to visit the capabilities of the Cape Verde Coast Guard, to establish contacts with the Port Maritime Institute (IMP), a long-standing partner of the IH, and with ENAPOR (port authority). After being received by the Minister of the Sea of Cape Verde, Dr. Paulo Veiga, he signed a protocol of exchange and technical cooperation with the Institute of the Sea of Cape Verde (IMAR), at the ceremony represented by its President, Dr. Malik Lopes.
The commitment of the IH to the safety of navigation in Cape Verde over the past 17 years, in close collaboration with IMP, allows this country to present today an extensive and updated nautical cartography, which makes us all proud, Portuguese and Cape Verdeans.
