SUB-ECO

The project SUB-ECO aims to develop an acoustic surveillance system, off the Portuguese continental margin, using the MONIZEE network and the operational capacity to forecast the ocean circulation implemented at the Hydrographic Institute.
Intends to consolidate competences in the field of submarine acoustics through the construction of a submarine noise monitoring network, along the Portuguese continental margin, and by the integration of passive listening hydrophones in the MONIZEE multiparameter buoys network.
It will also include the monitoring of submarine noise caused by anthropogenic marine / submarine activities (generating alerts when this noise exceeds critical values) and the development of a numerical module for operational forecasting of the propagation of submarine acoustic noise.
